RECYCLED PRODUCTS
Sustainable Road Solutions with Foamed Bitumen
At J Hopkins Contractors Ltd, we specialize in providing eco-friendly and cost-effective solutions for road construction and rehabilitation. Our flagship product, foamed bitumen, offers superior performance and sustainability. By recycling road planings and utilizing advanced foaming technology, we deliver high-quality bituminous products that meet diverse project requirements.

The Production Process
Step 1
Step 1: Heating the Bitumen
We begin by heating bitumen to a temperature of 170 to 180°C. This ensures the bitumen is in an optimal state for the foaming process.
Step 2
Step 2: Adding Water
Cold or lukewarm water, around 1 to 3%, is introduced into the hot bitumen within an expansion chamber. This mixture is then forced through a nozzle.
Step 3
Step 3: Creating the Foam
As the mixture exits the nozzle at atmospheric pressure, the water vaporizes instantly, causing the bitumen to expand and form a foam. This foam has low viscosity, allowing it to mix easily with aggregates and coat fine particles, creating a durable and cohesive material.

UNDERSTANDING FOAMED BITUMEN
Key Applications and Benefits
Foamed bitumen is an innovative and eco-friendly solution widely used in civil engineering for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of asphalt roads. This method involves mixing hot bitumen with a small amount of water, creating a foam that expands and coats aggregate particles. The resulting mixture is highly workable and can be used as a base or binder course in road pavements. Key benefits include cost efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and the ability to recycle road planings. By incorporating hydraulic binders, the stiffness of the material can be enhanced, making it suitable for various applications.

What Our Clients Say

FAQ’s About Foamed Bitumen
Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our recycled products and foamed bitumen services.
What is foamed bitumen?
Foamed bitumen is a mixture created by injecting water into hot bitumen, which expands and forms a foam that can be mixed with aggregates for road construction.
How does foamed bitumen benefit road construction?
Foamed bitumen improves the flexibility and durability of road materials, making it ideal for base and binder courses in road pavements.
Can foamed bitumen be used for all types of roads?
Foamed bitumen is best suited for roads with moderate traffic loads. It is not typically used as a surfacing material but is excellent for base and binder courses.
Is the recycling process environmentally friendly?
Yes, the recycling process with foamed bitumen is environmentally friendly as it reuses existing road materials, reducing the need for new raw materials and minimizing waste.
What are the cost benefits of using recycled materials?
Using recycled materials with foamed bitumen reduces the overall cost of road construction projects by lowering material and transportation expenses.
How long does it take for foamed bitumen to set?
Foamed bitumen sets relatively quickly, but the stiffness of the material can be enhanced over time by adding hydraulic binders like cement or lime.
